I don't live in a fantasy world, but I'm working on it.

julie@feralwriters.comYou hear stories.
Dark, forbiding tales of young writers raised by wolves in literary clothing. Lost, they run wild on the internet, fending for themselves in the cold, cruel world of submissions, weblogs and genre ideals.
You think, nah. Impossible. Urban legends.
But you're wrong.

I'm not much on handing out the details of my life to complete strangers ("But Julie, you keep three online journals." "Oh, hush."). The most important thing to understand about me is my devotion to the principles of slackage. It explains the often millenial breaks in my posting habits, why it took me eight years to get an MA I have no intention of using, why I decided fan fiction was generally much more rewarding than writing professionally, and my willingness to put up with ten years and counting of administrative and secretarial drudgery.
I am a slacker, and I'd be proud of that, but really, that takes too much damned effort.
I do, however, have moments of motivation, during which I am an ardent feminist, an armchair intellectual, an aspiring genre writer, a full-time fan fiction writer, a bleeding-heart progressive, an enthusiastic media fangirl, an unapologetic nerdy dork, and an devout aficionado of low-brow entertainment.
I am in my third decade, married, and the parent to two children of the feline persuasion. I reside near, and work on, The University of Michigan campus. I've been in Ann Arbor for over years. At this rate, I don't think I'll ever leave. This isn't a bad thing.
